Limpopo Birding and Wildlife Photographic Safari

Limpopo Birding and Wildlife Highlights

Limpopo Birding and Wildlife – Limpopo is often referred to as South Africa’s wildlife capital and this safari can easily be combined with a hunting safari.

The Limpopo province of South Africa is ideal for novice as well as experienced birders. It has almost 600 bird species, including many Southern African endemics and ‘regional specials’ and a number of ‘birding hot spots’. In the summer months we also receive many migrants from central Africa and Europe and the Limpopo Bushveld then becomes a birder’s paradise.

The birding areas that we visit also support other wildlife populations and one can expect to see many different antelope species, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, elephants and even predators, all depending on where the safari takes us.

Limpopo is a part of Africa with an astonishing variety of habitats: wetlands, riverine woodlands, sour bushveld, sweet bushveld, mist-belt forests, mixed forests, afromontane grasslands, mopane woodland, and arid mountain bushveld. The diversity of animal-, bird- and plant life can be overwhelming, especially for first time visitors.

On this safari one can reasonably expect to see at least some raptors (eagles, buzzards, and vultures); large waterbirds (herons, egrets, ducks, geese, hamerkop); smaller water birds (lapwings and plovers, crakes, jacanas, sandpipers, snipes); game birds (spurfowl, sand grouse, doves); shrikes; starlings; sunbirds; weavers, finches, buntings and waxbills; bee-eaters; barbets; woodpeckers ; kingfishers; hornbills; hoopoes; doves and pigeons; and many, many others.
